CBC comments: Lymphocytes are small and well-differentiated. Consider these results with knowledge if the
species has a predilection for a higher lymphocyte count, clinical impression, and other
diagnostic findings.
There were many smudge cells on the submitted slides. This may have altered the differential
and white blood count. For best results, make smears as soon as possible after sample
acquisition.

Electrophoresis Comments
The total protein is increased. This may reflect mild patient or sample dehydration. By percent total
protein, the alpha 2 and beta globulins are increased and reflective of acute inflammation. Moderate
to marked increases in these fractions can be observed with nephritis, hepatitis, dermatitis, and
mycotic infection. Increases may also be observed with sarcocystosis and chronic chlamydiosis as
well as mycobacteriosis. Specific beta globulin proteins which often manifest as a monoclonal
appearing peak in this fraction are also increased in egg laying birds. Followup EPH may have
prognostic value in this case.
